Other Interesting Cars We've Owned...

Always in Pursuit of Motoring Fun

Dave started his first '59 Anglia project back in late '66.  These pictures were taken in 1968, a few months after he met Susan.  This was our only transportation at the time.

Everything that was in the way of a small block Chevy was cut out with a saws-all.  The motor was set back for better weight distribution and the stock seats were moved back.  The engine and drive train came from a '57 Corvette.  The front axle was from a Ford van.

Dave's daily driver in 1967-70 was a British Ford Cortina.  We did some autocrosses with it and did quite well.

For a short time in 1968 he had a 1959 TR3.  We spent many evenings on the country roads with it during the summer.

In 1972, while living in Michigan, we purchased a 1968 Z28 Camaro.  We kept it several years, but the salt used for snow removal did its damage.  Thinking it was too rusty, we sold it.  Compared to cars being restored now, it was not bad.

Around 1973 we did our 2nd Anglia project.  It was a 1967 Ford Anglia.  We put in a 1970, 454 Corvette engine.  I started with a Muncie 4-speed and the last version had a turbo 400 transmission.

The chassis contained a shortened Chevy rear-end with Oldsmobile axles and leaf springs.  The front was made up of a Corvair cross-member and A-arm assembly with a rack and pinion steering bolted on.  We also welded in a 6-pt roll cage.  The engine was set back behind the front axle line and everything that got in the way was cut out and re-fabricated.  We moved the front bucket seats towards the rear and used a hydraulic clutch pedal set-up.  On the automatic we used a floor shifter from a '68 Camaro.

The car weighed around 2,450 lbs.  On a good day the car would pull the front wheels off the ground going into 2nd gear (N50 x 15 rear Mickey Thompson tires).  It was a fun ride and also my only street car for a while.

For a couple of years Dave had a 2004 Hayabusa.  He sold it when he decided he wanted to go back to moto-cross.
